Why Our Licensed Aesthetician Courtney LOVES Microneedling

Posted on: January 5th, 2026 by Our Team

One of the most common questions we hear at Peak Skin Center is, “If you could pick just one treatment to improve overall skin quality, what would it be?” Microneedling is almost always at the top of that list. We love treatments that don’t just create a temporary glow, but actually help the skin repair and rebuild itself over time. Microneedling does exactly that, which is why it has become one of our favorite procedures to perform and recommend.

Microneedling, sometimes called collagen induction therapy, uses a specialized device with very fine, sterile needles to create controlled micro-channels in the skin. These tiny injuries signal your body to start a healing response, stimulating collagen and elastin, increasing cell turnover, and improving overall skin quality. With topical numbing, the treatment is generally very comfortable, and the channels are so small that the skin begins its repair process almost immediately. Instead of forcing change from the outside, microneedling works with your skin’s own natural healing mechanisms, which is one of the reasons we trust it so much.

We see some of the most satisfying results in patients with acne scars. Acne can leave behind depressions, rolling scars, and uneven texture that makeup can’t fully hide. When we microneedle acne-scarred skin, the micro-injuries help break up scar tissue and encourage the growth of new, healthier collagen. Over a series of treatments, many patients notice that their scars look softer, shallower, and less noticeable in different lighting. The goal is not perfect, poreless skin but more even texture and smoother skin that helps you feel more confident with or without makeup.

Microneedling is also an excellent option for fine lines around the mouth, often called perioral lines or “lip lines.” These can develop from natural aging, sun exposure, repetitive movement, and habits like pursing the lips or smoking. They tend to be stubborn and can make lipstick bleed or settle into creases. By stimulating collagen right where those lines form, microneedling helps support the skin from within, giving it a firmer, more resilient structure. Over time, this can soften etched-in lines and improve the way the skin reflects light so the area looks smoother and more refreshed. When we pair treatment around the mouth with a thoughtful skincare routine focused on barrier health and hydration, the improvement can be especially noticeable without changing your natural expressions.

Beyond scars and perioral lines, the overall benefits of microneedling are what make it such a versatile, go-to treatment. Many patients come in saying their skin looks tired, dull, or uneven but can’t pinpoint why. After a series of microneedling sessions, they often notice more even tone, refined pores, and a smoother, more supple feel to their skin. Because microneedling boosts circulation and collagen, it tends to give the skin that healthy, quietly radiant look that is hard to mimic with makeup alone.

Another reason we love microneedling is that it can enhance the effectiveness of the right skincare products. Those temporary micro-channels allow carefully selected medical-grade serums to penetrate more deeply than they can on intact skin. When we pair the procedure with appropriate hydrating, calming, or brightening ingredients, the treatment becomes even more powerful. It is important, however, to follow the post-care instructions we provide; this is not the time to experiment with harsh at-home actives. Our job is to guide you on what to use and what to avoid so your skin can heal beautifully.

We know downtime matters. Most people experience some redness, mild swelling, and a sensation similar to a sunburn for a day or so after treatment. In the days that follow, the skin may feel a bit dry or tight as it renews itself. Makeup can typically be worn again after a short period, depending on the protocol we use. The most exciting part is that improvement continues to develop in the weeks after each session as collagen remodeling takes place beneath the surface. Microneedling is not a quick, one-day fix; it is a gradual, meaningful investment in the long-term health and quality of your skin.

Ultimately, what makes microneedling so special to us is the way it supports natural, authentic results. Instead of chasing dramatic, trend-driven changes, we focus on strengthening your skin at a deeper level. Whether you are trying to soften acne scars, smooth lines around your mouth, or simply restore a fresher, healthier look, microneedling gives us a customizable, science-backed way to help you get there while still looking like yourself.
